Krishna Book, written by Srila Prabhupada is the biography of Krishna. It covers His divine eternal nitya-lilas (passtimes and life stories) during His appearance on earth (bhuloka) 5000 years ago towards the end of Dwapar Yuga.
Srila Prabhupada wrote this book after his health was deteriorating, and he was then working on Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 & 4. He stopped writing Bhagavatam mid-way and first wrote Krishna Book (which is actually based on the 10th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam).
Why read Krishna Book and who should read?
A senior who was mentoring me in spiritual life then (in 2015) had told me that Krishna is very magnanimous. He is an ocean of mercy and love. This senior of mine mentioned that, "How can you love somebody deeply unless you know about him or her? Similarly, until and unless you know Krishna how can you love Him?"
He told me that one can really know about Krishna, His beautiful qualities, form, eternal position and His inner purpose behind His every action simply by reading the Krishna Book.
The book starts with a very deep preface where Srila Prabhupada writes that Krishna's lilas (passtimes) are for all sections of society. He says that just by reading Krishna's life and passtimes, one becomes purified and inches closer and deeper in spiritual life on its own.
Anybody who really wants to know the deep and confidential purpose behind this human birth should definitely read Krishna Book.
Krishna Book Review & Synopsis
The book starts with Lord Brahma glorifying Krishna and asking Him to descend on earth to establish dharma.
Then the chapter on how Krishna descends with all the demigods in Mathura explains the inner thoughts of Vasudev, Devaki and Kans.
The book 'Demystifying The Mystical Vrindavan' is the essence and crux of this entire website.
If you are considering to dive into the final goal of our Vedic Scriptures and spiritual life, and if Radharani inspires you, do get a copy of the book .
Then Krishna is taken to Gokul by His father Vasudev and given in care of His foster-father Nanda Baba.
From there, His killing of demons, pastimes with gopis, leaving for Mathura, killing Kans, conversation with Rukmini and various portions of life has been beautifully described by Srila Prabhupada. You just can't resist reading more and more.
It's a very quick read in spite of being such a lengthy book with over 800 pages!
How to read?
If you are a busy workaholic or have daily engagements, the ideal way to read Krishna Book (as I have heard from devotees) is to read 4-5 pages of it just before sleeping every night. The consciousness before sleeping is about what you are thinking 1-2 hours prior to going to bed. By reading Krishna Book, your mind automatically reminds you of the beautiful passtimes of Krishna.
Krishna Book is just wonderful. It's very difficult to describe in words but I hope you can understand what I am trying to convey. There's something really deep here.
And if you have got some time, read it as inspired from within. Many devotees have read Krishna Book in just a week also. Eventually, the desire to read it is important, and once you begin to read this book, you will just fall in love with Krishna. As mentioned earlier, it's very difficult to describe in words!
