Is it important to read scriptures and Vedic books to gain spiritual knowledge?

Nama japa and complete surrender on Krishna sprout all knowledge and science in the heart of the sincere seeker on its own. For example, Maharishi Valmiki just by chanting ma-ra ma-ra (which is a reversed form of ra-ma) got all realisation of spiritual knowledge and composed the Ramayana - The biography of Lord Rama!

Same way, Arjuna just by surrendering completely unto Krishna got the complete crux of Bhagavad Gita directly in his heart.

The holy names of Krishna are so powerful that even if one has not read "abcde" or has never gone to school, even then they will get all the ability to speak all the four Vedas from within. All the Vedas will sprout in his heart on own by sincere chanting of holy names!

This might sound blunt to those who have never met a true guru but knowledge and material education are NOT as important as nama japa. One can be light and tell you to balance, lifestyle and all crap, but if one has to be very honest, this is it - NOTHING is as important as nama-japa or nama-sankirtan in Kali Yuga. This Kali Yuga is all about nama. You must read the inner confidential meaning of Hare Krishna Mahamantra to understand the exalted position of nama in this age of hypocrisy and quarrel.

Simplicity in Bhagavad Gita, as Srila Prabhupada writes is, to tell the truth even to your enemy. For devotees, there are no enemy or friends. For them, everybody is Krishna who is their everything (sarvaswa). There is no need to compromise by not stating that nama gives everything and all knowledge. It's all about conviction by doing chanting and chanting of more and more nama. Rasika Acharyas have mentioned time and again that in this Kali Yuga, nothing is as important as nama. Nama Nama Nama!

Regular chanting of holy names sprouts all confidential knowledge from within, and fruit of all knowledge is to get completely detached from the material world and develop prema (love) for Radharani and Krishna. As one's meditation on Radharani and Krishna thickens, all knowledge comes to serve the devotee on its own (Bhagavad Gita 9.22)

Tulsidas writes in Ramacaritamanas that control (over oneself and acting as per Vedic regulations) and routine (of nama-japa) are flowers, and fruit of this flower is knowledge, and fruit of knowledge is developing the love for Godhead.

To the sincere seeker, everything sprouts from within by chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra!
